Rotate PDF

Turn PDF pages the right way up, all at once or just the ones you pick, without losing quality.

Processed on your device, nothing uploadedLast updated

To rotate a PDF, drop it onto Kilnfile's Rotate PDF tool, choose 90° clockwise, 180° or 90° anticlockwise, optionally type the pages to turn, and click Rotate PDF; the file is updated in your browser and never uploaded. The rotation is written into each page's metadata rather than re-rendering it, so the change is lossless and instant.

How do I rotate a PDF and save it?

  1. Drop one or more PDFs onto the drop zone, or click it to choose them.
  2. Under Rotate, choose 90° clockwise, 180° or 90° anticlockwise.
  3. In Pages, type the pages to turn, such as 2, 4-6, or leave it blank to rotate every page.
  4. Click Rotate PDF.
  5. Download the rotated PDF, or click Download all as ZIP if you rotated several files.

Rotate PDF changes the rotation value stored with each page, using pdf-lib in your browser. Every PDF page carries this number (0, 90, 180 or 270) and viewers turn the page by it when they display it. Because the tool only adjusts that number, the page content is untouched: text stays selectable, images keep their full resolution and the file size barely changes. It is the same thing Adobe Acrobat does when you rotate and save, and it takes a fraction of a second even on a long document.

Choose the angle by how the page currently looks. A scan that came in sideways needs 90° clockwise or 90° anticlockwise depending on which way it fell; if you pick the wrong one, run the result through again. A page that is upside down needs 180°. The tool adds to any rotation already on the page, so a page already stored at 90° and rotated by 90° again ends up at 180°.

Leave Pages blank to rotate the whole document, which is right for a scanner that turned every sheet. Use a list such as 2, 4-6 to fix only the landscape pages in a mixed report, or a single number to turn one stray page. Page numbers count from 1. You can add several PDFs and apply the same rotation to all of them in one go, and the results come back as a ZIP. If the PDF is password protected, unlock it first with Unlock PDF.

There is no file size limit beyond device memory, no signup and no watermark. Everything runs on your device: the PDF is never uploaded and nothing is stored. Because the rotation is metadata, a handful of older or very basic viewers may ignore it and show the page as it was; if you need the pixels themselves turned, convert the page with PDF to JPG, rotate the image and rebuild with JPG to PDF.

How it works: this tool uses pdf-lib and PDF.js (Mozilla), open-source libraries loaded into your browser. No server is involved, so Kilnfile never sees your file. Last reviewed 20 September 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rotate just one page?

Yes. Type that page number into the Pages box, for example 3, and choose the angle. Every other page is left as it is.

Does rotating reduce quality?

No. The tool records the rotation in the page's metadata and leaves the content untouched, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution.

Which direction is 90° clockwise?

The top of the page moves to the right-hand side, as if you turned a sheet of paper a quarter turn to the right. 90° anticlockwise moves the top to the left.

I rotated the wrong way. Can I fix it?

Yes. Drop the rotated file back in and rotate by 180° to flip it, or by the opposite 90° to return it to the original. Nothing is lost between passes.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The rotation is applied in your browser with pdf-lib and the result is saved on your device. Kilnfile never sees or stores the PDF.
